history

Until the church is formed

Heidenfeld was probably created during the Frankish conquest in the first half of the 8th century . Even before 855, the place belonged to the Holzkirchen monastery , which has belonged to the Fulda Abbey since that time . The Counts of Wertheim as bailiffs of the Holzkirchen monastery also acquired the bailiwick of Heidenfeld at the end of the 13th century . In 1397 Marktheidenfeld was first referred to as a city ("oppidum"). The term "Marckflecken", which can be proven in 1612, is more appropriate. Between 1522 and 1530 the Reformation was introduced in the county of Wertheim and thus also in Marktheidenfeld . In 1612 Heidenfeld was drafted as a Würzburg fief after the Würzburg-Wertheim feud (1599 to 1617) , and the Counter-Reformation began under the priest Johannes Molitor (1576–1639). From 1632 to 1634 the place was briefly Protestant again after the victories of the Swedes, after which the place belonged to the Hochstift Würzburg . The name Marktheidenfeld was first documented in 1649 as a distinction to the Heidenfeld monastery near Schweinfurt, which was also part of the Würzburg monastery . The Office of the High pin Würzburg was secularized in 1803 in favor of Bavaria, in a border cleanup contract in 1807 to the Grand Duchy of Würzburg left with which it finally fell to Bayern 1814th In 1814, Marktheidenfeld became the seat of the Homburg Regional Court , the forerunner of the Marktheidenfeld Regional Court . In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria, the market town of Marktheidenfeld was created with the second municipal edict on May 17, 1818 .

20th century

In 1975 the Association for the Environment and Nature Conservation Germany was founded in Marktheidenfeld .

On October 13, 1984 there was a demonstration in Marktheidenfeld with 700 to 1000 participants who protested against the traditional meetings of the 4th SS Police Panzer Grenadier Division in the city. At the end of the 1950s , in order to promote tourism , the city had promised to support this meeting organizationally. Initially there were around 150 participants, but the event soon grew to around 400 participants. The “ Mutual Aid Community ”, which was under observation by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution and classified by them as right-wing extremists, also took part in the meeting. More than 800 people signed for an end to the official status of the meeting, but this was initially rejected by the city council and district council. In the course of the increasing protests organized by the DGB , the SPD , the Greens , the IG Metall , church youth and student groups and organizations persecuted by the Nazis, the meeting was stopped.

Around 530 inhabitants in 1542, around 730/800 towards the end of the 16th century, 630 in 1633 and probably around 500/550 by the end of the Thirty Years' War in 1648. In 1673 around 700 people lived in Marktheidenfeld again, and in 1720 around 1100.
