Geographical location

Glau borders in the north on Mietgendorf and Kleinbeuthen , in the east on Großbeuthen and Thyrow , in the south-west on Trebbin, in the south on Schönhagen and in the west on Blankensee . District road 7231 runs through the village in a west-south-east direction.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1368 as Gloych . Other spellings are villam Glaw in 1383, Glowe 1446 and Glaw 1534. The name Glau has been used since 1861. The residents predominantly operated agriculture and set up their farms in the form of a square village , i.e. with a central open space. This structure can be seen in a map from 1683.

In 1920 the social reformer Joseph Weißenberg founded a religious settlement with social, medical, therapeutic and educational facilities, the Peace City Weissenberg . The settlement was dissolved during the National Socialist era or, in the course of harmonization, was forcibly integrated into Nazi organizations. In 1934 a volunteer fire brigade was founded in the village. After the end of the Second World War , the Red Army built a garrison on the site of the settlement plant and a military training area a few meters further south. In 1994 it was returned to the members of the Johannische Kirche as the legal successor to the settlement cooperative.

In 1998 Glau merged with Kliestow , Wiesenhagen and the city of Trebbin to form a new city of Trebbin.
