Location of Glinde in Barby

Glinde is a district of the town of Barby in the Salzlandkreis in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

Glinde is located on the western bank of the Elbe ("Elbe-Strom-Bogen") between Barby and Schönebeck (Elbe) .

history

Around 700 there was probably a Slavic settlement here, which is proven by finds. The name Glinde can be derived from the Slavic Glina , which means "clay". Another interpretation is possible from the Low German Glint , which means enclosure or fence.

The first documentary mention was made in an undated document from Emperor Otto I to the Moritz monastery in Magdeburg, in which he confirmed his donations from 937 and 939.

In 1150 , a "Burchardus de Gline" was named as a witness in a document issued by Albrecht the Bear . This is thus the oldest mentioned representative of the "old-free sex of the von Glinde".

The most important representative, that of Glinde, is Heinrich von Glinde. Heinrich was provost of the St. Sebastian monastery (1187–1194), provost of the Bibra monastery (1199), provost of the Hundisburg provost (1180–1184 / 86) and dean of the cathedral in Magdeburg . Heinrich tried to get the office of Chancellor with Philip of Swabia . In 1199 Heinrich was attacked and blinded by the brother of the then Chancellor ( Konrad von Querfurt ) Gerhard von Querfurt near Haldensleben . As a result of this act, Heinrich was unusable for the Chancellery. Pope Innocent III allows Heinrich to retain his dignity and appoint a vicar . Heinrich von Glinde's letter seal is the oldest preserved seal of a canon and, with the exception of king and bishop seals , the oldest preserved seal .

In 1221 Otto von Glinde is expressly referred to as "quidam liber homo". The gender is therefore to be addressed as noble and freely eligible for scholars.

The family “von Glinde” died out at the beginning of the 14th century.

On January 1, 2010, the previously independent municipalities of Glinde, Breitenhagen , Groß Rosenburg , Lödderitz , Pömmelte , Sachsendorf , Tornitz , Wespen and Zuchau and the city of Barby (Elbe) merged to form the new city of Barby. At the same time, the Elbe-Saale administrative community , to which Glinde previously belonged, was dissolved.

mayor

The local mayor of Glinde is Norbert Langoff. The last mayor of the municipality of Glinde was Norbert Langoff.

coat of arms

Today's coat of arms is blue with a silver wave bar, in the left half is a sun with 12 flames and in the right half a golden linden leaf.

In preparation for the 1050th anniversary in 1987 it was recognized that there was no known coat of arms for Glinde from the past. An old seal depicting a linden tree or an oak was used to design a coat of arms. After the political change, however, this coat of arms was rejected by the responsible state authority.

Despite strict heraldic rules, the necessary redesign did not have to do without essential identification features. Today's coat of arms therefore includes the sun and linden leaf. The flaming sun documents the day of light measurement, the 12 flames the months of the year. The golden linden leaf was adopted as a "reference" to the old seal design ( seal ). There is also historical depth in the choice of color: The blue testifies to the fact that until 1815 Glinde was the only place on the left Elbe that belonged to the Gommern district whose shield contained blue. The silver wave bar symbolizes the location on the Elbe .

Economy and Infrastructure

Several farms, a goat farm, a model carpentry shop, a blacksmith's shop, a printing shop, a sports park and the restaurant "Zum Goldenen Anker" are located in the area, where all candlelight celebrations are celebrated.

SG Eintracht Glinde

  • Founded in 1923

The origin of the club goes back to the men's gymnastics club Glinde (MTV) founded in 1903. The MTV initially consisted of 34 men and 7 pupils. The MTV focused exclusively on gymnastics. In 1923 the twentieth anniversary was prepared. An amount of 50 billion marks was requested from each member of the association in preparation for this festival. Due to the hyperinflation in the Weimar Republic, this money was invested in a natural value of 94 cigarettes. The club thus had an attractive exchange option for club purchases.

In 1923 the handball club "Eintracht" was founded from MTV Glinde. In 1947, as a result of the Second World War, the face of the village changed so that resettlers and evacuees looked for their place in the community and found them, among other things, playing handball. In 1954/55 a new sports field was built behind the Elbdamm directly at the entrance to the village. The old sports field is located between the Elbe and Damm and is therefore directly at risk of flooding.

As a full field team in the 1960s, the men's representation was one of the strongest in the district and in the entire district of Magdeburg. Overall, the "Eintracht" was three times district champion on the large field and four times in the hall before the fall of the wall.

Thanks to good cooperation with the Barby schools, it was possible after reunification to get boys from Barby and the surrounding communities enthusiastic about handball. In 1993, after many years of abstinence, a junior team could be registered in the HVSA West Game District. In 1998 the "Elbe Sports Hall" was completed.

Successes of the 1st men's team:

  • 2000 promotion to the district league
  • 2001 promotion to the association league
  • 2002 promotion to the league
  • 2003 State Champion Saxony-Anhalt
  • 2003 promotion to the regional league
  • 2006 North German runner-up

While there were only two children's and youth teams from 1993 to 1998, the number of teams participating in official match operations rose temporarily to 13. There was a phase when three men's teams were playing at the same time. A women's team also played point games for two years. In 2002 the first men's team and the male E-youth were honored as teams of the year in the district of Schönebeck . The E-youth (2002) and the A-youth (2012) celebrated their greatest successes in the youth field by winning the state championship.

After the bankruptcy of SG Eintracht Glinde, the club is now called the Glinder handball club "Eintracht". The 1st team plays in the association league.

Fishing club Glinde

  • Founded in 1968

Over the years, district, state and GDR champions have emerged from the ranks of the Glinder competition team: Denis Wolff started at the world championships in sport fishing in 1991 as a team member of a selection of the state anglers' association of Saxony-Anhalt.

Since 2012, the “People's Fishing Day”, renamed “Fisherman Festival”, has been taking place at the Elbanleger.

Museum and local history association of the Lichtmessgemeinde Glinde

  • Founded in 2013

On February 2, 2000, the Lichtmess-Archiv-Museum was opened in the building of the former Trittel bakery. It is the only museum of its kind in Germany. The museum is dedicated to the history and customs of the Glinder Candlemas, as well as the history of the community of Glinde in general. The association maintains and develops the idea of Wilhelm Trittel, the initiator and spiritual father of the museum, and enriches the cultural scene with numerous events such as the Candlemas Breakfast and the Candlemas Review.

Glinde Hunting Association

  • Founded in 1991

Before 1945, the community hunt was leased to local farmers. Due to the small-scale landscape structure, there was a diverse range of wild animals. The Glinder community hunt was a small game area with a high number of hares. At that time, partridges were part of the constantly occurring game species.

After 1945 the hunting societies were founded and were responsible for carrying out the hunt independently of the municipalities. Parts of the Glinder Flur were hunted by the Barby and Schönebeck hunting parties . With the change in agriculture to larger structures, the conditions for game also changed. Partridges became rare and the hare population dwindled considerably. Roe deer were the game species that coped very well with the new conditions and increased in numbers.

On August 23, 1991, the Glinde Hunting Association was re-established. The area of the Glinder hunting area is 400 hectares and is leased to a tenant community. At the moment the predominant game species is roe deer and wild boar as changing game. In the past, increasing corn cultivation led to a higher proportion of wild boar. Hares are only available as a basic stock and are no longer hunted. Wild geese are again available as breeding birds.

Glinde Library

  • Founded in 2010

In 1942, Glinde had a public library with 93 books. The books were housed in the school. During the GDR era, the community library moved into today's fire department depot. When the fire department depot was rebuilt in 2006, the library moved back to the "old school". On May 11, 2007, the interest group "Bibliothek Glinde" was founded from which on May 6, 2010 the non-profit association Bibliothek Glinde e. V. emerged. The library stock includes around 4500 books and notebooks.

The association enriches the cultural scene with numerous events such as an Advent evening, a school festival, a skat tournament and a torchlight parade. Readings and lectures from the local history of the region also attracted a lot of attention.

"Elbaue" garden division

  • Established in 1982

There are currently five allotments that are cultivated, the remaining part is meadow and is used for hay production. In 2012, the garden division had seven members.

Events

Annual highlights in community life are the traditional Candlemas Festival, the Candlemas Summer Festival, the Elbe Bathing Day, the Fisherman's Festival, the School Festival and the Courtyard Festival. The Candlemas Festival, which, following an old tradition, always takes place on a Sunday around February 2nd, is the highest festival in the series of Glinder celebrations.
