Gloria Calomee

Gloria Calomee (born September 5, 1940 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American film, television and theater actress as well as singer , musical artist , theater producer and author .

Life

Calomee began her acting career in the early 1960s and appeared in a number of films and television series through 1980. Some of the series she starred on include St. Dominic and His Sheep (1963), Mr. Novak (1963-1965), Crazy Wild West (1968), Petrocelli (1975), Barney Miller (1975), Trapper John, MD (1979) and Detective Rockford - just give us a call (1979). The best-known films she has appeared in are Mark Rydell's 1969 comedy The Crook and James Goldstone's 1977 thriller Roller Coaster. She was, along with Mittie Lawrence and Ena Hartman , one of the actresses for the character Uhura in the series Spaceship Enterprise were considered before Nichelle Nichols took on the role.

As a stage actress, she appeared in Lost in the Stars at the Beverly Hills Recreation Center in 1963 , in The Owl and the Pussycat at the Coronet Theater in 1966, and three times directed by C. Bernard Jackson at the Inner City Cultural Center. So in 1973 in One Is a Crowd , from 1974 to 1975 in EarthQuake II and from 1981 to 1982 in Proud . From 1977 to 1978 she played the Lady in Purple in Ntozake Shanges For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide / When the Rainbow Is Enuf . She also appeared as a musical performer in Is It Just Me Or Is It Hot In Here? at the cine grill in Hollywood.

Her professional career as a singer began in the 1980s, during which she also appeared in Paris , the Algarve , Lisbon and on Portuguese television.

From 1985 to 1995 she was the production manager at the Inner City Cultural Center in Los Angeles. During that time, she made more than 25 productions including award-winning Checkmates with Denzel Washington and Paul Winfield , Four Seasons with Calvin Lockhart, and Woman from the Town with Roxie Roker and Loretta Devine . She then worked for the Cultural Affairs Department and the Nate Holden Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles.

Her travel articles and treatises on the arts and artists in the developing world have been published in the Los Angeles Times newspaper and The Crisis magazine of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People , among others .

In 2009 her album Gloria Calomee - Live in Hollywood! , which has a mix of jazz, classical pop and Brazilian samba .
