The Gmina Siechnice , until 2009 Gmina Święta Katarzyna , is an urban-and-rural municipality in the powiat Wrocławski in the Polish Voivodeship of Lower Silesia .

Geographical location

The district of the city and country municipality is located southeast of the city of Wroclaw and borders directly on this city.

local community

A peculiarity of the urban and rural community was that until January 1, 2010, its seat was the village of Święta Katarzyna ( Kattern ). The only town in the municipality has been Siechnice since 1997 .

The population is 15,000 people, the area is 98.57 km² (66.26 km² of which are agricultural areas and 10.29 km² of forests). There are 23 places in the municipality, including the town of Siechnice (Tschechnitz) with around 4,000 inhabitants. Around 70% of the community's population lives in the four largest towns, Siechnice, Radwanice (Radwanitz) , Święta Katarzyna and Żerniki Wrocławskie (Schönborn) . Due to the proximity of the city ​​of Wroclaw, no middle center has emerged in the municipality's area.

The community is located on the Breslau – Opole railway line and on a state road. There are five railway stops in the municipality where passenger trains (pl. Pociąg Osobowy ) stop. The village of Święta Katarzyna is connected to the city of Wroclaw by a bus line operated by the Wroclaw Transport Company; the other places can be reached with the lines of the bus company PKS .

The first written mention of Święta Katarzyna comes from 1257; Siechnice was first mentioned in 1253. In the district of Biestrzyków (Eckersdorf) there is a residential tower from the 14th / 15th centuries. Century.

At the beginning of the 20th century Siechnice was industrialized; it was u. a. A power station was built by the Silesian electricity company.
