The Gmina Suchowola is an urban-and-rural municipality in the powiat Sokólski of the Podlaskie Voivodeship in Poland . Its seat is the city ​​of the same name with about 2200 inhabitants.

geography

The municipality is located in the northeast of the country in the area of ​​the Biebrza swamps . Suchowola is considered to be one of the geographical centers of Europe .

history

Between 1795 and 1807 the area belonged to Prussia , then until 1918 to Russia and then to Poland. In 1950 Suchowola lost its town charter, which was granted again in 1997.
