The Gmina Suchowola is an urban-and-rural municipality in the powiat Sokólski of the Podlaskie Voivodeship in Poland . Its seat is the city of the same name with about 2200 inhabitants.
geography
The municipality is located in the northeast of the country in the area of the Biebrza swamps . Suchowola is considered to be one of the geographical centers of Europe .
history
Between 1795 and 1807 the area belonged to Prussia , then until 1918 to Russia and then to Poland. In 1950 Suchowola lost its town charter, which was granted again in 1997.
