Going Back ( English for “ going back ”) is the eighth studio album by British singer Phil Collins . It was published in September 2010 and reached number 2 in the German charts, number 3 in Switzerland , number 3 in Austria and number 1 in Great Britain. It was also placed in the United States , reaching number 34 on the Billboard 200 . The album contains mostly cover versions of Motown - and soul standards from the 1960s.

Collins said the idea behind Going Back was not to make something new out of the great old records, but to recreate the sounds and feelings that he had when he first listened to it: “… not to bring anything 'new' to these already great records, but to try to recreate the sounds and feelings that I had when I first heard them. My intention was to make an 'old' record, not a 'new' record ".

criticism

• The website Allmusic.com wrote that the album was "… mildly surprising in its fidelity to its source material". ("... somewhat surprising in its fidelity to the original material".) The album was given three stars out of five.
