Goity ( Russian Гойты , Chechen ГӀойтӀа ) is a village (selo) in the Republic of Chechnya in Russia with 16,177 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The place is located on the northern edge of the Greater Caucasus almost 20 km as the crow flies south-southwest of the republic capital Grozny on the Goita, a right tributary of the Sunscha .

Goity belongs to Rajon Urus-Martanowski and is located about 7 km north-east of the administrative center of Urus-Martan . The settlement is the seat and only locality of the rural community Goitinskoje selskoje posselenije.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1822, 1825 and 1846 as a Chechen Aul in connection with fighting and destruction during the Caucasus War of 1817–1864 , so it has probably existed since at least the 18th century.

During the period of deportation of the Chechen population from 1944 to 1957, the village was called Svobodnoye in Russian .

Less than 10 km north of the village performs the federal highway R217 Kawkas (formerly M29) by, of Pawlowskaja in the region Krasnodar along the Caucasus northern edge to Azerbaijani extends limit and the Republic Grozny bypasses widely south in this area. Goity itself is on the regional road Assinovskaya  - Achchoi-Martan  - Urus-Martan - Staryje Atagi , which is crossed there by the connection between the R217 towards Grozny (where the nearest train station is also located) and the southern village of Alkhazurovo .
