Gossip is the fifth studio album by the American rock band Sleeping with Sirens from Grand Rapids , Michigan . It will be released worldwide on September 22, 2017 via Warner Bros. Records .

The album is home to eleven tracks, including the single Legends , which was pre-released on July 14, 2017 with a music video. The deluxe version of Gossip includes two additional songs, Broken Mirrors and My Life .

History of origin

Sleeping with Sirens started work on the successor to Madness from 2015 in 2016. In February 2017, the group gave a first update in which it was said that the group was in the MDDN Studios to start recording of the album to work. In fact, the musicians were already in the recording studio with producer Dave Bendeth , where the group worked on the album for a total of six months.

On June 9, 2017 it was said that the studio work on the new album was completely finished. It was suggested that the album might be released in September. One month after this announcement, the musicians drew the public's attention to an album announcement as soon as possible. A few days later, Legends, the first single, including a music video, was released in advance and the album, which bears the name Gossip , was announced for September 22, 2017. By moving from the independent label Epitaph Records to Warner Bros. Records , Gossip represents the major debut of Sleeping with Sirens.

music

Gossip represents a complete departure from the musical roots that lie in post-hardcore . Already on the previous albums, changes to a sound similar to pop music could be heard. On Gossip , however, the musicians turn completely to pop, which they underlay with slight influences to rock music. In an interview with Alternative Press , singer Kellin Quinn said that the musicians want to incorporate their personal musical influences into the band's music.

Quinn describes the album's music as "dark"; The lyrics are about the feeling of being lost and somehow finding hope. He said he had been depressed for a number of years and had a panic attack on stage about a year ago , which also helped the lyrics to be worked out.

success

Commercially

Gossip entered the US album charts at number 38 and in Australia at number 64. In a report by the portal Rock Feed , based on a tweet from the online magazine Note to Scene , Gossip sold only 12,000 times within the first week of sales in the United States. This value represents a drop of 65 percent compared to its predecessor Madness , which at that time could still be sold almost 35,000 times within the first week. According to Rock Feed , the group had alienated some fans by switching to Warner Bros. Records and turning to popular music for the masses, which resulted in this sales value. The portal calls Gossip a commercial flop in this regard.

Press reviews

Rachel Campbell of Alternative Press wrote that the major debut could unsurprisingly take the band into uncharted musical realms. However, the album does not fall into the post-hardcore -typical sound that brought the group to the scene; Even the high voice of their singer Kellin Quinn , known for the band, can hardly be heard anymore. What the listener receives is a sound mix of rock and pop music with a bluesy undertone. British Rock Sound's Andy Biddulph described the musical shift as "the post-hardcore twist on what Fall Out Boy did on their Save Rock and Roll album ." He describes Gossip as a boomerang that got the hardcore fan base at the beginning to scare off, but to reconcile again after a certain time. Even with Allmusic one is of the opinion that the group in comparison to the previous album Madness on Gossip have changed again largely. The reviewer is reminded of All Time Low and PVRIS , who followed a similar path with their latest albums Last Young Renegades and All We Know of Heaven, All We Need of Hell .
