Gottfried Geiler

Gottfried Geiler (born December 13, 1927 in Leipzig ; † April 28, 2018 ) was a German pathologist .

Life

Geiler attended the St. Thomas School in Leipzig . After graduating from high school, he studied human medicine at the University of Leipzig . During the Second World War he served in the Wehrmacht and worked as an assistant doctor in Berlin . It was in 1952 with the thesis The influence of the physical and emotional trauma on the onset and progress of multiple sclerosis doctorate and his habilitation in 1961 with the work of morphology and pathogenesis of Synovialome . He then worked as a senior physician under Gottfried Holle as well as a university professor and from 1981 as an associate professor in Leipzig. In 1990 he became a full professor of pathology . He was a member of the Rector's College and from 1990 to 1995 Dean of the Medical Faculty. He also worked from 1993 to 1995 as director of the Institute of Pathology.

From 1989 to 1999 he was Vice President of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina . He was a member of the Presidium of the Medical Faculty Conference . He sat in the Senate of the German Research Foundation and in the planning group for the renewal of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences .
