Gotthilf August Francke (born April 1, 1696 in Glaucha ; † September 2, 1769 in Halle (Saale)) was a German theologian and educator .

As the son of August Hermann Francke , he worked early on in the Francke Foundations in Halle, which he founded. After his studies, including in Jena , he was ordained pastor in 1720 . His first pastor was at the breeding and work house in Halle. In 1723 he was appointed adjunct at the Marienkirche and in 1740 received the post of archdeacon . Also in 1723 he was appointed adjunct of the theological faculty of the University of Halle at the same time as Johann Jakob Rambach ; In 1726 he was promoted to extraordinary and a year later after the death of his father to full professor (at the same time as Rambach). In 1730 he was appointed superintendent of the first diocese of churches and schools in the Saalkreis . In 1739 he received his doctorate in theology and in 1767 was appointed consistorial councilor for the Duchy of Magdeburg .

After the death of his father in 1727 he succeeded him as director of the Francke Foundations, initially together with his brother-in-law Johann Anastasius Freylinghausen until his death in 1739. He continued to expand his father's life's work and made particular efforts to do missionary work overseas, as in India and British North America . In 1741 he sent Henry Melchior Mühlenberg to Pennsylvania .

Gotthilf August Francke was buried in Halle's Stadtgottesacker . His grave is in crypt arch 81, the Francke family crypt. A grave inscription is no longer preserved.
