history

The development of the place is based primarily on the manor belonging to Scharfenstein Castle located there .

The first documentary mention of the Grune dates back to April 8, 1386. Margrave Wilhelm I of Meißen assigned the rule of Scharfenstein with associated villages, including Grünau, as a widow's residence to the widow Anargs von Waldenburg.

August Schumann mentions in the State Lexicon for Grünau in 1816: “Not far from there is the Grünauer Vorwerk, and above the village is a mill. It has 30 adult residents with 10 cows ” .

In 1874 Grünau and Hopfgarten became part of the newly formed Amtshauptmannschaft Marienberg . From then on, all school-age children were taught in the newly built school in Hopfgarten.
In 1907/08, the road to Großolbersdorf, which was widened in 1888, was converted into a road. In 1910 Grünau became a district of Hopfgarten.

In 1931 the entire property of Count Kurt Haubold Alexander von Einsiedel was foreclosed. Factory owner Fritz Eulitz from Grünau near Langenweißbach acquired Scharfenstein Castle with the associated Vorwerke Grünau and Weida. In 1938 Friedrich Sarfert from Bockwa acquired the Grünau plant, and in 1941 it burned down in part. As a result of the land reform , Gut Grünau (formerly the Vorwerk of the Scharfenstein Manor) was expropriated in 1946. On the faces of Vorwerkes were Neubauer points set up.

In 1994, the community of Hopfgarten and the district of Grünau joined the Grüner Grund administrative association and left the same on October 1, 1998 when it was incorporated into Großolbersdorf.
