Grachmusikoff was a band from Bad Schussenried in Upper Swabia , whose lyrics are largely in the Swabian dialect . The group was a pioneer of the black baroque in the late 1970s .

history

The band was founded in the summer of 1978 during a demonstration against a youth house closure in Bad Schussenried. The twin brothers Georg and Alexander Köberlein and Hansi Fink were founding members . The group was initially called Igor, Boris and Nikita Grachmusikoff . Only in later years the band name was shortened to Grachmusikoff.

In 1979, parallel to his engagement with Grachmusikoff, Alex Köberlein founded the band Schwoißfuaß , which initially took over the repertoire of Grachmusikoff, but interpreted it in a more rocky way. At the beginning of the 1980s Schwoißfuaß became quite successful with his own compositions in Baden-Württemberg , which meant that the Grachmusikoff project initially took a back seat. However, Schwoißfuaß dissolved in 1986, so that Grachmusikoff came back into focus.

In the first few years Grachmusikoff played singing, keyboard and guitar in the basic line-up, mainly calm, sometimes folk songs. With the inclusion of ex-Schwoißfuaß drummer Jürgen Bratke (1983) and bassist Dieter Zimmermann (1984), the group turned more and more into a rock band. Accordingly, she took over some pieces from the more rock-oriented sister band Schwoißfuaß in the following years. Especially the Schwoißfuaß hits Oinr Isch Emmr Dr Arsch ("One is always the ass") and Am Ich Selbr Rastaman? ("Am I a Rasta man myself?") Became an integral part of the Grachmusikoff repertoire at concerts.

In 1986 Grachmusikoff released the LP Dame oder Schwein , which, in contrast to earlier works, had mainly High German texts. As a result, it was also possible to reach an audience outside of Baden-Württemberg, but not to the extent that the band had hoped for with a " major contract " behind them. In 1990 the CD Im Musikantenstadl was released , the best-selling of all the band's records. In the following years, Grachmusikoff released a new CD about every two years and performed around 60 live performances per year.

With a farewell concert on December 28, 2017 in the brewhouse in Tübingen , the band ended their work for reasons of age.

Style and show

From the beginning, Grachmusikoff's trademark was the Upper Swabian lyrics of the songs . Her first piece D 'Marie hockt dussa und pläret (literally in High German Maria sits outside and cries ) was a translation of the folk song Mariechen sat crying in the garden into Swabian. Only a few pieces, with the exception of the CD Dame or Schwein , are in High German.

In contrast to the largely consistent use of dialect texts , the group's music was characterized by numerous styles. There are pieces that are heavily influenced by folk and pop music , as well as those that can be attributed more to blues or rock music . The influence of reggae and ska can also be heard in some of the songs. Another typical feature of Grachmusikoff was a funny and wild stage show in which the transitions between the individual songs consisted of relatively long speaking parts in which Swabian idiosyncrasies were often poked fun at with jokes and anecdotes .

Awards

On April 11, 2013, the founding members of the band (Alex Köberlein, Georg Köberlein and Hansi Fink) were awarded the honorary prize of the Baden-Württemberg Cabaret Prize. According to the jury in its justification, the Grachmusikoff Trio has become “a monument to Swabian folk culture incarnate. For 35 years, her songs have not only reflected the lifestyle of her Swabian contemporaries. The joy of playing and an impressive variety of instruments could only withstand criticism over such a long period of time when paired with professionalism. "
