The Grammsee is a lake in the municipality of Mustin in the Duchy of Lauenburg . It is located east of Ratzeburg in the Lauenburg Lakes Nature Park directly on the state border with Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . The lake is part of the nature reserve “ Lankower Seeufer, Grammsee and Surroundings ”.

The lake was created after the Glaciation of the Vistula . It is naturally a mesotrophic lake. By phosphorus - and nitrogen entries particularly from agriculture, the lake is today eutrophic lake. It has three small tributaries and drains through a small ditch to the northwest lying Lankower See , which is connected to the Wakenitz via Mechower and Ratzeburger See .

The lake was used for fishing in the past . The management was stopped at the end of 1995.

The lake is surrounded by reed beds and large sedge meadows, followed by wooded areas, which are often characterized as alder forests with black alder , which are often preceded by a narrow border of willows. The gray willow dominates here . The swamp forests grow on fens on the south bank. Here the downy birch joins them. Floating leaf communities with water lily and yellow pond rose settle in the lake . To enhance the lake and its banks, the water level was raised, which also adjacent fen areas rewetted were.

The lake and its surroundings accommodate, among other marsh harrier , bittern , little grebe , reed warbler , reed bunting , oriole , Warbler and Nightingale . The lake is a resting area for migrating water birds .

In the lake live pike , tench , rudd , roach , perch and moderlieschen , in small numbers also burbot and wolffish . Occurrences of the eel are probably due to the earlier fishery management of the lake. The lake is also home to various freshwater snails , including pond limpets and pointed pond snails .
