Gregory Nemisz (born June 5, 1990 in Courtice , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and current coach , who played 15 games for the Calgary Flames in the National Hockey League between 2006 and 2015 , but mainly was used in the American Hockey League . Since the 2015/16 season , Nemisz has been assistant coach for the Oshawa Generals from the Ontario Hockey League .
Career
Nemisz was selected seventh in the 2006 OHL Priority Selection by the Windsor Spitfires and played for the Spitfires in the Ontario Hockey League for the next four years . During this time he and his team won the J. Ross Robertson Cup and the Memorial Cup twice . Nemisz was in 2009 the Second All-Star Team and in 2010 elected to the Third All-Star team the OHL. In 2008 he took part in the CHL Top Prospects Game before he was selected 25th place by the Calgary Flames in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft , in 2008 he took part.
In July 2009 he signed a contract with the Flames and completed 68 games for the Abbotsford Heat , the Flames' farm team, in the American Hockey League in the 2010/11 season . In March 2011 he made his debut in the National Hockey League . Despite numerous injury problems, the Flames extended the contract for one year in the summer of 2013. Nevertheless, shortly before the end of 2013, he was transferred to league rivals Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for Kevin Westgarth . There he was employed on the Charlotte Checkers farm team before ongoing injuries forced him to retire from his career in the summer of 2015.
At the age of 25, Nemisz joined the Oshawa Generals of the OHL as an assistant coach, having worked for the team during his injury break.
International
For Canada , Nemisz took part in the U18 World Junior Championship in 2008 , where he and his team won the gold medal. He was also part of the Canadian selection that won the silver medal at the 2010 U20 World Junior Championship .
