Gregor Danner
Gregor Danner OSB (born March 28, 1861 in Oberappersdorf ; † April 11, 1919 in Munich ) was a German religious and abbot .
Life
Gregor Danner was born in Oberappersdorf (now Zolling municipality) in the Freising district in 1861 . After studying theology he received in the May 19, 1887 Freising the priesthood . Soon afterwards he became Prefect and in 1892 Subregens at the Archbishop's Clerical Seminary in Freising.
He later entered the Benedictine Abbey of Scheyern , where he made his profession on September 14, 1897 . There he was mainly active as a novice master and teacher at the Progymnasium. The abbot Rupert Metzenleitner appointed him on January 3, 1904 as the first prior of the Plankstetten monastery, which was to be re-established .
But already on March 3, 1904 he was postulated as abbot in St. Boniface Munich , since the local convent could not agree on a successor to Benedikt Zenetti ; on March 21 of the same year he received the abbot's benediction there. From 1906 to 1915 Danner was also elected Abbot President of the Bavarian Benedictine Congregation .
Danner had the Andechs estate bought back in order to build an educational institution for 130 boys between the ages of 9 and 18, the so-called Gregorius educational institution. Today the building is used as the Rothenfeld correctional facility.
Danner was buried in the crypt of St. Boniface after his death.
