Gregorio Naro
Gregorio Naro , also Gregorio Nari (born October 24, 1581 in Rome , † July 7 or August 7, 1634 in Rieti ) was an Italian clergyman, bishop and cardinal of the Roman Church .
Life
Gregorio Naro was the son of Gregorio Naro from the family of Marquis of Mompeo and his wife Olimpia Lante, a sister of Virginia Lante, with Giovanni Battista Borghese , brother of Pope V. Paul was married. He was thus a nephew of Cardinal Marcello Lante on his mother's side . Other cardinals from the Naro family were Benedetto Naro and Costantino Patrizi Naro .
Gregorio Naro studied at the University of Perugia , where he obtained a doctorate. On January 18, 1621, he entered the service of the Curia as a trainee lawyer at the courts of the Apostolic Signature . In 1622 he was a cleric in the Apostolic Chamber and on November 10, 1623 he became Prefect of Annona . He was also the general auditor of the Apostolic Chamber. From 1624 to 1625 he was governor of Civitavecchia . On January 28, 1626 Gregorio Naro was appointed Apostolic Protonotary .
Pope Urban VIII created him in the consistory of November 19, 1629 as a cardinal priest under dispensation from the fact that his uncle was also a member of the college of cardinals . Gregorio Naro received the cardinal's hat and the titular church Santi Quirico e Giulitta on December 17th of the same year.
On February 6, 1634 Gregorio Naro was elected Bishop of Rieti . He received his episcopal ordination on March 12, 1634 in the chapel of the Borghese of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, Cardinal Marcello Lante; Co- consecrators were Tiberio Cenci , Bishop of Iesi , and Ludovico Cinci , Bishop of Todi .
Gregorio Naro died on August 7, 1634 at his bishopric in Rieti. His body was transferred to Rome and buried in the family chapel of the Basilica of Santa Maria sopra Minerva .
