Greti Schmid (* 24. May 1954 in Brunico , South Tyrol as greti Pohlin ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ). Schmid was regional councilor in the Vorarlberg state government from 2000 to 2014 .

education

After graduating from the commercial college in Bozen , she studied biology at the University of Innsbruck and received her doctorate there in 1979. In 1984 she was also licensed as an Italian interpreter. From 1986 to 1988 she worked in the private sector in Bregenz and from 1989 to 2000 as assistant to the hospital management at the Feldkirch regional hospital .

Political career

Schmid began her political activities in Göfis . From 1995 to 2000 she was the community representative of the local open village list and chairwoman of the social committee. In 1999 and 2000 she was a member of the state parliament for the ÖVP in the Vorarlberg state parliament and as such chairwoman of the environmental committee and women's, environmental and health spokeswoman for the People's Party. From October 2000 on, she was regional councilor in the Vorarlberg regional government as the successor to Eva Maria Waibel, responsible for the areas of family, women, youth and senior citizens, social affairs, care and support, matters of development cooperation, IT and telecommunications policy.

In the 14 years of her government activity, Greti Schmid was a member of a total of four ÖVP-led state governments under two different state governors. She first came to the state government on October 11, 2000 in the Sausgruber II state government under Governor Herbert Sausgruber , was subsequently a member of the Sausgruber III and Sausgruber IV state governments and finally, from December 7, 2011, a member of the Wallner I state government under state governor Markus Wallner . In the run-up to the 2014 state elections , Schmid announced that she would be withdrawing from politics and thus resigned from the state government after the election.

On the occasion of her resignation, Governor Wallner emphasized in front of the state parliament that her work had been characterized by considerable perseverance and a strong backbone and for the needs-based further development of the social network in Vorarlberg with, among other things, the vacation for caring relatives, the "early help" program, the financial driver's license, home nursing, the competence center for child protection or the mobile assistance services.

From February 2001 to March 2015, Greti Schmid was also the country manager of the ÖVP women's association in Vorarlberg. Your successor in this function is the state parliament member Martina Rüscher . On the occasion of her departure, Schmid was appointed honorary chairwoman. In protest against the planned reform of the Austrian health insurance funds by the federal government, Greti Schmid, who had been the chairman of the advisory board of the Vorarlberg Regional Health Insurance Fund (VGKK) since leaving politics, resigned from this position in December 2018.

Private

Greti Schmid is married, has two daughters and lives in Göfis .
