Location of Großdalzig in Saxony

Großdalzig is a district of the Saxon town of Zwenkau in the Leipzig district and is located in the western part of the Leipzig lowland bay .

location

The place is about six kilometers southwest of Zwenkau city center. The Werbener Ableiter runs south of the settlement and flows into the Profener Elstermühlgraben near the village, from where the water flows to the White Elster . Neighboring towns of Großdalzig are Zitzschen in the north, Tellschütz in the south and Kleindalzig in the west. In addition, the former manor settlement of Mausitz, north of the town center, is part of the town hall.

history

The oldest traces of settlement in the region go back to the Neolithic . In 1872 a barrow was discovered on Großdalziger Flur , from which an ax and a spherical amphora could be recovered. Today's place developed from an originally Slavic round hamlet , which was later expanded by German settlers into a street and alley village . The origins were probably in the area of the parish corner, where there was possibly an early Christian chapel . The first written mention of the village comes from 1367 ( Dalezag ). In the 15th century a distinction was made between the towns of Großdalzig (1478: Dalck maior ) and Kleindalzig. To the north of the town was the Mausitz settlement, which fell desolate in the Middle Ages and later became a manor belonging to Großdalzig .

The basic rule was responsible for 1548 pro rata to the Monastery Pegau and the manors Löbnitz and fawns . In 1606 and 1767 this was owned by the Mausitz manor. The administration of the place was under the Pegau office until 1856 , then under the Zwenkau court office . In the course of an administrative reform in Saxony, Großdalzig came to Leipzig in 1875 . On January 1, 1952, the neighboring communities of Kleindalzig and Tellschütz were incorporated and the place was assigned to the Leipzig-Land district . Zitzschen followed in 1973. Großdalzig and its districts have been part of the city of Zwenkau since October 1st, 1993.

Townscape

The townscape is characterized to this day by larger three and four-sided courtyards , which in the past were mainly managed by middle farmers. There are also more recent residential buildings. In the north of the village some buildings of the former Mausitz manor have been preserved. The most important historical building is the village church.

Church: The church of Großdalzig probably goes back to an earlier chapel or branch church . The current building was built in the 17th and 18th centuries. The oldest part is the tower, first mentioned in 1664. In 1776 the nave was completed. The windows were destroyed when an air mine hit in 1944. After 1990 a comprehensive renovation of the building and the interior took place. The three cast steel bells were cast in 1957 and replaced the bells that were melted down during World War II .

Großdalzig's three new bronze bells were cast on September 22, 2017 in the Bachert bell foundry in Karlsruhe. Lifted into the church tower at the beginning of December 2017, they bear - like the previous bells - the Our Father as an inscription. The large celebration and death bell with the Luther rose weighs 550 kilograms, has a diameter of 970 millimeters and the tone “as 1”. The middle one serves as a prayer bell, weighs 440 kilograms, has a diameter of 870 millimeters and the tone "b 1". The smaller one is the baptismal bell with a weight of 265 kilograms, a diameter of 740 millimeters and the sound of "2". The cost was 170,000 euros including the construction of the new bell cage.

Economy and Transport

The most important branch of the economy has traditionally been agriculture, which is now operated by the Großdalzig eG agricultural cooperative. There are also some smaller craft businesses, u. a. a manufacturer of bagpipes .

Großdalzig is connected to the neighboring towns of Zitzschen in the north, Tellschütz in the south and Kleindalzig in the west via district roads. The latter also serves as a connection to federal highway 186 . There are bus routes to Zwenkau and Knautkleeberg . Since 1873 the place has also had a stop on the Leipzig – Gera railway line , which is served hourly by regional trains of the Elster-Saale railway .

education

As a church village , Großdalzig had its own school, which was also attended by the children of the Mausitz manor and the neighboring village of Tellschütz. During the GDR era, it was called the Ernst Grube Polytechnic School , named after the KPD politician and resistance fighter Ernst Grube . Since this school closed, the children have been attending classes in Zwenkau. In Großdalzig, however, there is a kindergarten run by the Evangelical Lutheran Parish of Großdalzig.

Association

  • SV Eintracht Großdalzig: The club was founded in 1918 as a workers', gymnastics and sports club "Frischauf Tellschütz". First, we used the inn Tellschütz and a self-created by the members Raffball -Sportplatz. In 1933 the association was dissolved. After the end of the Second World War, in July 1945, the associations for cultural and physical exercises and the cultural community of Tellschütz and the surrounding area were established as successors. In addition to gymnastics, there was also a male and a mixed choir as well as chess, theater and singing groups. After the dissolution of the cultural community, the "SG Tellschütz" was founded in 1952 with sections for gymnastics, badminton and weightlifting as well as football. Today's SV Eintracht Großdalzig emerged from this. He currently has three departments for soccer, women’s sports and senior women’s sports.
