Löbnitz-Bennewitz is a district of the city of Groitzsch in the district of Leipzig (Free State of Saxony ). The place was formed in 1895 from Löbnitz and Bennewitz and incorporated into Auligk in 1948 . With this he came to the city of Groitzsch in 1996.

Löbnitz-Bennewitz is located in the Leipzig lowland bay six kilometers southwest of Groitzsch. Löbnitz was mentioned in 1267 as "Lubaniz", Bennewitz in 1378 as "Penewicz". Both places were in 1378 in the area of ​​the County of Groitzsch (castrum Groitzsch), which in 1460 was united with the Pegau escort office to form the Pegau office . From then until 1856, Löbnitz and Bennewitz were in the Electoral Saxon and Royal Saxon Office of Pegau.

In Löbnitz there is a manor that arose from a moated castle from the 12th century. This was a seat of power within the county of Groitzsch or the Pegau office. In addition to Löbnitz u. a. the neighboring town of Bennewitz (only part of the Mausitz manor between 1606 and 1696 ), Gatzen , Saasdorf , Altengroitzsch , Methewitz , Michelwitz , Nöthnitz , Pautzsch , Obertitz (partly before 1606), Cöllnitz (before 1606), Tellschütz (partly before 1606) and Großdalzig (proportionally before 1606). In the 17th century, the owners of the Löbnitz manor were the Dukes of Saxony ( Albertine line of the Wettins ). When the estate was divided in 1656, the Löbnitz manor came to the Dukes of Saxony-Zeitz . In 1693 it was bought by Adam Ernst Senfft von Pilsach , whose family sold it to the Counts of Werthern in the middle of the 18th century . The Senfft von Pilsach family had their hereditary burial place in the church in the neighboring village of Gatzen. In 1796 Friedrich Johann Leberecht von Brösigke bought the manor. His son-in-law, Otto Ulrich von Levetzow , bought it from him. His daughter Ulrike von Levetzow was Goethe's last great love . Due to financial hardship, von Levetzow had to sell the estate to Count Christian Gottlieb von Hohenthal in 1819 , whose line the Count von Hohenthal-Püchau owned the estate until it was expropriated in 1945.

From 1856 Löbnitz and Bennewitz belonged to the Pegau court office and from 1875 to the Borna district administration . On June 14, 1895, both places united to Löbnitz-Bennewitz, which was incorporated into Auligk on September 1, 1948 . As a district of Auligk, Löbnitz-Bennewitz came to the Borna district in the Leipzig district in 1952, to the Borna district of Saxony in 1990 and to the Leipziger Land district in 1994 . When Auligk was incorporated into Groitzsch on January 1, 1996, Löbnitz-Bennewitz became a part of the town of Groitzsch.

Löbnitz manor

The Löbnitz manor emerged from a moated castle from the 12th century. In 1610 the dukes of Saxony had a hunting lodge built. A French garden was laid out in the middle of the 18th century. The later owner Friedrich Johann Leberecht von Brösigke had the manor house, which is still preserved today, built in the classicism style in 1798 . In addition to the manor house, an elongated building with a gable roof, parts of the medieval ring wall and moat, the coachman's house from the 18th century and the distillery have been preserved to this day.

  • Ulrike von Levetzow (1804–1899), Goethe's last love, was born in Löbnitz and baptized in the Gatzener church. She spent the first decade of her life at Gut Löbnitz. There is a memorial stone at the manor house.
