Location of Berndorf in Saxony

Berndorf is a district of the Saxon town of Groitzsch in the Leipzig district . On January 1, 1994, an administrative community was formed from the four communities Auligk , Audigast , Berndorf and Großstolpen . On January 1, 1996, the municipality of Berndorf with its six districts, like the other three municipalities of the administrative community, was incorporated into Groitzsch.

geography

Berndorf is located in the Leipzig lowland bay eight kilometers southeast of Groitzsch. The state border with Thuringia ( Altenburger Land ) is located directly in the south . The place is west of the Schnauder . To the west is the Groitzscher See , which was created in the disused southern part of the Groitzscher Dreieck opencast mine . In the northern part, lignite mining is to be resumed as part of the United Schleenhain opencast mine from 2030. To the east of the neighboring towns of Kleinhermsdorf and Nehmitz, the Schleenhain opencast mine was active, which means that the three towns are located on a narrow strip between these two former opencast mines. Neighboring towns of Berndorf are the districts of Hohendorf in the north, Kleinhermsdorf and Nehmitz in the east , which also belong to the Saxon Groitzsch, and the Thuringian city of Lucka in the south.

history

Berndorf was mentioned under this name as early as 1416. The place will celebrate its 600th anniversary in 2016. Until 1856, Berndorf was in the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon Office of Borna . Due to its location on the border with the city of Lucka in the Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg, there was a customs house in Berndorf. From 1856 Berndorf belonged to the Borna court office and from 1875 to the Borna district administration .

On April 1, 1935, the eastern neighboring towns of Kleinhermsdorf and Nehmitz were incorporated . 1952 came the municipality of Berndorf with its two districts to the Borna district in the Leipzig district . Hemmendorf , southwest of Berndorf, was incorporated into Berndorf on January 1, 1957.

The Schleenhain opencast mine (1949–1994), opened in 1949, dredged the eastern area of the Kleinhermsdorf and Nehmitz districts around 1960/61. A total of 70 residents had to be resettled. In contrast to the neighboring village of Schleenhain to the northeast , which gave the opencast mine its name, the two places were not completely dredged. The Groitzscher Dreieck opencast mine (1974–1994) was opened to the west of Berndorf in 1974/75 . In 1976 the western parts of Berndorf were devastated by him. Since then, Berndorf and its districts have been located in the narrow strip of the Schnauderaue, which was spared from being excavated between the two opencast mines.

The incorporation of Hohendorf and its districts Langenhain , Oellschütz and the corridor from Schleenhain to Berndorf took place on January 1st, 1974. The municipality of Berndorf was assigned in 1990 to the Saxon district of Borna and in 1994 to the district of Leipziger Land . In 1994, Berndorf entered into an administrative partnership with the neighboring communities of Auligk, Audigast and Großstolpen. When Berndorf was incorporated into Groitzsch on January 1, 1996, the administrative community was dissolved and Berndorf became a part of the town of Groitzsch.

Saxon postal mileage column

In Berndorf there is a Saxon quarter milestone from 1724.

Berndorf watermill

The watermill in the Schnauderaue was first mentioned in 1534. It was run by a miller until 1992. While the old mill technology can still be seen, the once underflowing water wheel no longer exists. Due to its location in the “Schnauderaue nature reserve”, rare bird species such as z. B. kingfisher, great spotted woodpecker, black woodpecker and gray wagtail to watch. Furthermore, a rare dancing linden tree can be seen near the mill .

traffic

Berndorf is connected to the towns of Groitzsch and the town of Lucka, which is already in Thuringia, with the 7951 district road. This district road forms a road corridor in north-south direction in the Schnauderaue between the former Schleenhain and Groitzscher Dreieck opencast mines. In the north it joins Bundesstraße 176 at Großstolpen , which in turn is an east-west corridor through the United Schleenhain opencast mine.
