Zschagast

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Zschagast was a village south of Groitzsch that fell victim to lignite mining in 1981 by the Groitzscher Dreieck open-cast mine . His corridor is now part of the Michelwitz district of the city of Groitzsch in the Leipzig district ( Free State of Saxony ).

location

Zschagast was in the Leipzig lowlands not far from the Saxon-Thuringian border between Groitzsch in the north and the Thuringian city of Lucka in the southeast. The devastated location is today on the southwestern bank of the Groitzscher See, east of the Groitzsch district of Michelwitz and north of the village of Maltitz, which is also part of Groitzsch .

history

Zschagast was mentioned in 1140 as "Csagost". The place belonged to the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon Office Pegau until 1856 . There was a manor house in Zschagast. In 1856 the place came to the Pegau court office and in 1875 to the Borna district administration .

On October 1, 1948, Zschagast was incorporated into the neighboring town of Michelwitz to the west . At that time, Zschagast still had 129 inhabitants (as of 1946). In 1952 the municipality of Michelwitz and its three districts were assigned to the Borna district in the Leipzig district . On July 1, 1973, Michelwitz was again incorporated into Auligk , making Zschagast a district of Auligk. In 1974/75 the Groitzscher Dreieck opencast mine was opened northeast of Zschagast. Zschagast with its 35 remaining inhabitants had to give way to the opencast mine approaching from the east in 1981. In the Groitzsch district Großpriesligk today the "Zschagaster Straße" reminds of the excavated place. After the closure of the Groitzscher Dreieck opencast mine, the Groitzscher See was created in the remaining hole, on the southwestern bank of which the former location of Zschagast is today.

Due to the incorporation of Auligk into Groitzsch on January 1, 1996, the Zschagast corridor now belongs to the town of Groitzsch in the Saxon district of Leipzig.
