Location of Droßkau in Saxony

Droßkau is a district of the city of Groitzsch in the Saxon district of Leipzig in Germany .

geography

Droßkau is located in the Leipzig lowland bay southeast of Groitzsch. The federal highway 176 runs north of the village , in the northeast lies the Großstolpener See , a former open pit. Droßkau is located in the central German lignite district in the Schnauder floodplain . The area southwest of Droßkau was destroyed between 1974 and 1991 by the Groitzscher Dreieck opencast mine . The Groitzscher See was created in the remaining hole . The Schleenhain opencast mine has been in operation south-east of the village since 1949 and has continued to be operated as the United Schleenhain opencast mine since 1994/95 . The mining field remaining north of the Groitzscher Dreieck opencast mine is to be reopened after 2025 as part of the United Schleenhain opencast mine . The plans for the “Groitzscher Dreieck construction site” also partly include the location of the neighboring town of Obertitz.

history

The dead end village Droßkau was mentioned in 1181 as "Drosecowe". Between 1460 and 1856 the place was in the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon Office Pegau . From 1856 the place belonged to the judicial office of Pegau and from 1875 to the district administration Borna .

On October 1, 1948, Obertitz was incorporated into Droßkau, which in 1952 was assigned to the Borna district in the Leipzig district . The municipality of Droßkau with its two districts was incorporated into Großstolpen on April 1, 1966 . The municipality of Großstolpen had belonged to the Saxon district of Borna since 1990, which was added to the district of Leipziger Land in 1994 . When Großstolpen was incorporated into Groitzsch on January 1, 1996, Droßkau became a part of the city of Groitzsch.

The Schleenhain opencast mine, which has been active since 1949, devastated the area southeast of Droßkau between 1971 and 1975. The area southwest of the village was destroyed between 1974 and 1991 by the Groitzscher Dreieck opencast mine . The remaining mining field is to be opened again from 2025 as the “Groitzscher Dreieck mining field ” of the United Schleenhain opencast mine . The Obertitz location was designated as a "reserved area".
