Großmeiseldorf is a locality and cadastral municipality of the market town of Ziersdorf in Lower Austria .

geography

The place is in the valley of the Gartenbach just west of the Horner Straße . From a traffic point of view, it is opened up by the L43 state road, which is part of the road connection between Krems and Hollabrunn, but at the western exit of the town, roads lead in all directions.

history

Großmeiseldorf was formerly called Misselborndorf and was first mentioned around 1170, when ministerials of a family committed to the burgrave of Gars appear here. In the course of time, the Kuenringer, Maissauer and the Canons' Monastery of Dürnstein acquired larger property, but the Lords of Radlbrunn were also fiefs here and received a farm in 1423, which later became the property of the Melk Monastery . The Melkerhof (also called Scheidelhof ), which was owned by the Melker court master in 1567, is striking .

In the second year of the Thirty Years' War , 50 farmers were killed here; in 1645 a major fire broke out when the Swedes moved in; in the War of the Third Coalition and in the Fifth Coalition War related units of the French Grande Armée quarters in the town.

After the reforms of 1848/1849 , the place was constituted as an independent municipality in 1850. Großmeiseldorf was subordinated to the Ravelsbach district and from 1868 to the Hollabrunn district . In 1972 it merged to form the large community of Ziersdorf.
