Gruner , based in Basel, is a Swiss engineering and planning company ( service company ) for private and public clients. It has over 20 subsidiaries at over 30 locations in Switzerland, Europe and internationally.

Gruner has over 1000 employees from over 50 professions.

history

It was founded by Karl Heinrich Gruner with a focus on water supply in 1862 in Basel. He specialized in the construction of gas works and municipal water supplies. Under the name of Ingenieurbüro Dr. Gruner began the era of hydraulic engineering under Heinrich Eduard Gruner in 1898 . For the next 40 years, the company was almost exclusively active worldwide in the field of hydraulic engineering , hydropower plants and dams . In the 1930s, his son Eduard Gruner sketched the idea of ​​a Gotthard base tunnel , which he published in 1947 in his essay entitled “Journey through the Gotthard Base Tunnel”. Georg Gruner, the founder's grandson, joined the office in 1938. The engineering activity in the field of building construction began . In 1942 the company Ingenieurbüro Dr. HE Gruner + Sohn.

In 1948, after the death of his father Heinrich, the name was changed to “Gebrüder Gruner”. This was followed by work in the construction and civil engineering . In 1950, traffic planning was added as a new area of ​​activity. In 1970 the company was converted into a stock corporation (Gruner AG). In 1974 the subsidiary Gruneko AG was founded, which specialized in the energy industry and covers the areas of building technology and energy systems.

Böhringer AG became part of Gruner in 1979 with the activities of municipal and regional civil engineering as well as supply and disposal. In 1980 the Environment division was founded. The companies Tausky Leu Müller, Heinzelmann AG and Uli Lippuner AG became members of Gruner in 1985–1990. In 1992 the subsidiary Lüem AG was founded.

The company Gruner + Partner GmbH was founded in Leipzig in 1993. In 2000 the general planning and security divisions were founded. The subsidiary Tausky Leu Müller, Bauingenieure AG was renamed Gruner AG Ingenieure und Planer in 2001. In 2001 Frey Strub AG became a subsidiary of Heinzelmann AG. Heinzelmann AG was renamed Gruner Ingenieure AG in 2005. Also in 2005 Berchtold + Eicher Bauingenieure AG became a member of Gruner.

Roschi + Partner AG, which is active in building technology and energy planning, was integrated into Gruner in 2006. In 2008, the companies of the Wepf Group were transferred to Gruner + Wepf Ingenieure AG, St. Gallen and Gruner + Wepf Ingenieure AG, Zurich . Gruner GmbH was also founded in Vienna to increase its presence in Austria .

The engineering office H. Tanner became a subsidiary of Gruner Ingenieure AG in 2009. In the same year, Gruner International Ltd was founded to improve international business. The company Kiwi Systemingenieure und Beratung AG became a member of Gruner in 2011. With the Gruner Peru SAC, also founded in 2011, Gruner is now also represented in Lima. In 2012, Gruner celebrates its 150th anniversary. In 2013 Stucky SA was integrated into the company. The two traditional companies share a common history: Alfred Stucky , who founded the Stucky engineering office in 1926, worked from 1917 to 1923 first as an assistant, later as chief engineer and partner at Gruner in Basel. In the same year Gruner founds a company for fire protection solutions in Stuttgart: Gruner GmbH Stuttgart. Since 2014, the companies belonging to Gruner have been operating under the Gruner brand, with the exception of Stucky SA.
