Elmar Gunsch

Elmar Gunsch (born January 14, 1931 in Vinschgau ; † January 3, 2013 in Frankfurt am Main ) was an Austrian presenter , author and actor . Because of his distinctive, sonorous and soft bass voice he was nicknamed The Voice .

Life

Elmar Gunsch grew up in Vorarlberg, Austria . His parents came from South Tyrol, the father traveled a lot as a sales representative for corsetry. That is why Elmar Gunsch lived for some time with his grandparents in Nuremberg , where he graduated from the Hans-Sachs-Gymnasium . He initially worked as an actor on stages in Vienna and Klagenfurt for five years before becoming a radio presenter in 1957.

In 1961 he went to Frankfurt am Main as a radio journalist for the Hessischer Rundfunk . In 1963 he reported on the visit of US President John F. Kennedy to the Paulskirche in Frankfurt . He also made reports for the programs Zeitfunk and Unterwegs in Hessen . In the mid-1970s he went to Bayerischer Rundfunk , for which he worked until the 1990s. Here he first moderated the program Funkpost and from 1983 the program Das geht ins Ohr , where he presented hits and evergreens. From 1980 to 1983 he also worked for the German program of Radio Luxemburg ( RTL ) and during the 1990s for the radio station SWF4 Rhineland-Palatinate .

In addition to his work in the radio, he was the moderator of television programs on the channels ARD , Sat.1 and ORF 2 as well as the author and speaker of audio cassettes and long-playing records. At ZDF he presented the weekend weather on Thursdays from 1978 to 1986 according to the heute-journal , the programs Wiedersehen macht Freude (1978–1984) and Funny Musicians (from 1980 to 1985, together with Carolin Reiber ) as well as various specials and worked in skits in the children's series Babbelgamm with. At the end of the 1980s, Gunsch switched to Sat.1, where he hosted his own show. From January 1998 he appeared on the Harald Schmidt Show with recitations of German translations of well-known pop songs.

From 2000 to 2010 he toured Germany with his own production "A Journey into the Realm of Fantasy" with the classical guitarist Barbara Hennerfeind. He worked as a lecturer at the Institute for Voice and Speech Education in Bensheim . Gunsch was last seen on television on October 18, 2008 in the ARD television film Das Musikhotel am Wolfgangsee .

Shortly before his 82nd birthday, Elmar Gunsch died as a result of falling down stairs. He was buried anonymously in a cemetery in the Taunus.

Private

Gunsch was married four times and has one daughter. Since 1999 he has been an honorary member of the German Language Association .
