Life

In 1841 he moved to the Hessian State Domain Baiersrode in Hanau . The Graduate put Baist 1842 Wolfgang-Ernst-Gymnasium in Büdingen from. From 1842 to 1846 he studied Protestant theology at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen . During an educational trip, he studies French language and Reformed theology at the University of Geneva . His first pastor's position was in Ulfa near Nidda in 1850 . On April 14, 1852, Baist and Adelheid von Baumer (1821–1898) married. The couple had eight children. Due to his faithful Lutheranism , he was an opponent of the church union in Hessen-Darmstadt . Therefore he was deposed in 1875 and could not form an independent Lutheran congregation. In 1877 he came to Bavaria and was first pastor of Döckingen , then from 1883 pastor of the neighboring village of Westheim. There he became aware of the terrible situation of the farmers . Driven by the initiative of Johann Friedrich Oberlin and the idea of Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen , he founded the first cooperative banks in Central Franconia in 1881, the Raiffeisenkassen in Polsingen and Ursheim . Hechlingen followed in 1883, and the Raiffeisenkassen Westheim and Hüssingen were added in 1884 . Other pastors in the region followed suit and founded further banks to provide financial support for the farmers. However, Baist did not want any centralization with the other Raiffeisenkassen and therefore founded the Central Franconian District Association of Loan Association with its headquarters in Dittenheim and later in Ansbach . Gustav Baist died at the age of ninety in Westheim, where he was buried with his wife and four of his children.
