Ernst Steinacker
Ernst Steinacker (born November 6, 1919 in Wemding , † March 2, 2008 in Spielberg ) was a German sculptor .
Life
Ernst Steinacker was born in Wemding in what is now the Swabian district of Donau-Ries . His ancestors were farmers. In 1933 he completed an apprenticeship as a stone sculptor . In 1936 he attended the School of Applied Arts (Holz) in Munich . From 1939 to 1945 he participated in the war in the east. From 1948 to 1953 he attended the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart (together with Hajek and Jürgen Weber ). From 1953 he created his own works in bronze, stone and wood. From 1975 onwards he designed angels, which should ideally stand on a hill and over fields of wheat, "near heaven". From 1999 to 2000 the painting cycle Joy of Resurrection was created in Heidenheim Monastery . He also designed the cathedral portals in Augsburg and Trier and, in 2003, the new bronze portal for the Protestant monastery church in Auhausen .
Steinacker lived with his family near Gnotzheim ( Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district ) at Spielberg Castle , which he - starting at the age of 64 - renovated and converted into a museum and cultural center over five years of work. His studio was also located here. Some of his sculptures stand around the castle. A son with a family lives in the castle and looks after the paternal inheritance.
Steinacker was a jury member in the Neue Münchner Künstlergenossenschaft and in the Haus der Kunst in Munich . He was also a member of the German Society of Christian Art .
