Gustav von Gotzkow (born October 7, 1789 in Popowken ; † November 2, 1841 in Grünberg ) was a Prussian officer and knight of the order Pour le Mérite .

origin

His parents were the heir of Popowken Carl Ludwig von Gotzkow (1752-1817) and his wife Julie von Buchholtz (1767-1838).

Life

Gotzkow began his career in the Prussian Army on March 15, 1804 as a Junker in the "Esenbeck" dragoon regiment . He was promoted to Second Lieutenant in 1805 , took part in the Fourth Coalition War and was promoted to Prime Lieutenant in 1810 . After Gotzkow took part in the Russian campaign , he was transferred to the 2nd East Prussian Infantry Regiment due to injury . In September 1812 Gotzkow was awarded the order Pour le Mérite. The award was made at the suggestion of his superior, Major von Treskow. According to his report of July 25, 1812, Gotzkow received a serious head injury in a cavalry battle on July 19, 1812, with which he continued to participate in the battle, despite the objection of the doctor and his superior. Later he continued to serve with his unit. The report reached the headquarters of the Prussian king in Peterhof as a submission from Lieutenant General von Massenbach . It was the 662nd award of the Pour le Mérite under the reign of Friedrich Wilhelm III.

In his new regiment he continued to participate in the Wars of Liberation in 1813. Gotzkow then joined the 1st East Prussian Grenadier Battalion on October 14, 1814 when the Alexander Grenadier Regiment was formed, and on July 22, 1815 took part in the entry into Paris. 1817 dimittierte Gotzkow the rank of captain with the regiment uniform.
