Guy Desrochers
Guy Desrochers CSsR (born May 23, 1956 in Hull , Québec ) is a Canadian religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Pembroke .
Life
After attending the Collège Saint-Alexandre des Pères du Saint-Esprit in Limbour , Guy Desrochers specialized in art at the Collège Algonquin in Ottawa . From 1972 to 1979 he worked as a cartoonist for Le Droit newspaper in Ottawa.
Desrochers studied philosophy at the Saint-Augustin de Cap-Rouge seminary in Québec from 1982 to 1983 . He joined the Redemptorist religious order in Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré in August 1983 and made temporary profession on August 7, 1984 . He made his perpetual profession on August 29, 1987. From 1984 to 1989 Guy Desrocher studied Catholic theology at Laval University . He then completed a pastoral internship in the Archdiocese of Montréal . Desrochers received the in Hull on January 7, 1989 sacrament of Holy Orders .
In 1989 Guy Desrochers was active as a pastor in the diocese of Gaspé before he became superior of the Redemptorist branch in Aylmer in 1995 . From 1995 to 2005 he worked as a pastor at the basilica of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré and as an economist at the religious establishment there. He then became director of the Saint-Redempteur retreat house of Saint-Augustin-Des-Desmaures , before becoming director of the Revue Sainte-Anne in 2008 . From 2011 to 2015, Guy Desrochers was rector of the basilica of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré and superior of the Redemptorist branch there. Since 2015 he has organized spiritual retreats in Canada and the USA .
On 12 December 2018 it appointed Pope Francis to the titular bishop of Melzi and auxiliary bishop in Alexandria-Cornwall . The Archbishop of Ottawa and Bishop of Alexandria-Cornwall, Terrence Prendergast , SJ , gave him on 22 February of the following year at the Cathedral of St. Finnan in Alexandria , the episcopal ordination . Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Québec , Gérald Cyprien Cardinal Lacroix ISPX , and the Archbishop of Grouard-McLennan , Gérard Pettipas CSsR.
On May 6, 2020, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Pembroke. The inauguration took place on July 3 of the same year.
