Guys with Kids is an American comedy series by Jimmy Fallon , Charlie Grandy and Amy Ozols about three grown men who, together with their partners, raise their babies in a modern environment. It was produced by Universal Television in collaboration with Charlie Grandy Productions for the US broadcaster NBC and comprises a season with 17 episodes. It was first broadcast in the United States on September 12, 2012 on NBC, while the German-language broadcast began on September 15, 2013 on Comedy Central Germany .
action
Guys with Kids is about three neighbors and friends in their thirties who have all just become fathers even though they are still quite childish themselves. The successful lawyer Chris is recently divorced and therefore has problems with women despite his great self-confidence. He also shares custody of his nine-month-old son with his ex. Gary, a former successful real estate agent and now a full-time father of four children, takes care of the chores at home. The third is Nick, a commercial director trying to get his job, marriage and two children under one roof.
production
Charlie Grandy presented his then untitled series project to NBC in October 2011 , whereupon Grandy wrote a screenplay with Jimmy Fallon and Amy Ozols. The broadcaster NBC gave the green light for the production of a pilot episode in January 2013 . Scott Ellis was hired to direct the pilot, followed by the engagement of Zach Cregger as first lead actor. In March 2012, Jamie-Lynn Sigler , Anthony Anderson , Jesse Bradford , Tempestt Bledsoe and Courtney Henggeler received additional leading roles. A few days after Courtney Henggeler was signed, Sara Rue replaced her at the end of March 2012 . In May 2012 NBC commissioned a first season with 13 episodes under the title Guys with Kids . A month later, Sara Rue was again replaced by Erinn Hayes , as Rue's role on ABC's Malibu Country series had priority.
After the broadcaster NBC had increased the number of episodes in the first season from 13 to 17 in November 2012, it announced the discontinuation of the series in May 2013.

- United States
Following the series order in May 2012, NBC announced a September 12, 2012 premiere for a new edition of America's Got Talent . The preview was seen by 6.25 million viewers, resulting in a target audience rating of 2.2. The subsequent slot premiere two weeks later, now without an established supporting program, turned out sobering with a little over 4.8 million and a rating of 1.6. The audience ratings of the subsequent episodes reached a temporary low when they were broadcast on November 21, 2012 with only 3.47 million viewers (rating of 1.1). The first season finale, which is also the series finale, was shown on February 27, 2013. Even if the ratings had improved somewhat in the meantime, they remained at a weak level at the end of the broadcast.
In May 2013, NBC discontinued the series after one season and 17 episodes.
- Germany
In Germany, the free-to-air broadcaster Comedy Central showed the series, with the exception of the Christmas episode, from September 15 to December 1, 2013. This celebrated its German premiere on February 17, 2014 on VIVA.

reception
The series received generally negative criticism and has in Metacritic a Metascore of 38/100 based on 25 reviews. One of the few good reviews came from Glenn Garvin of the Miami Heralds , who wrote that " Guys with Kids is a perfect combination of funny dialogue and slapstick ." Matt Zoller Seitz of New York magazine wrote that he "expected to hate Guys with Kids , but his hostility [but] faded after about five minutes when it became clear the show wasn't awful". Time magazine review by James Poniewozik called the series "a cheap, stale, stereotype-addicted sitcom where no one, male or female, comes across particularly good or likable, except maybe the babies."
Anthony Anderson was nominated for Best Actor in a Comedy Series at the 2013 NAACP Image Awards . The series received a nomination for Best New Comedy Series at the 2013 People's Choice Awards , but ultimately lost to another NBC comedy series, The New Normal .
