The Gymnasium am Waldhof is a public high school in Bielefeld-Mitte .
history
The school was founded in 1828 under the name Private Töchterschule as the first Bielefeld girls' school on Viktoriastraße. In 1958 the school became urban ( Städtische Töchterschule ). In 1904 it was renamed the Auguste Viktoria School in honor of the Empress Auguste Viktoria . The school was destroyed in the Second World War and then rebuilt at its current location. The teacher Bernhard Bavink gave its name to the newly built Bavink Gymnasium . The school has been open to boys and girls since 1969. Based on Bavink's views, it was decided to remove the name and rename the school in 1996 to Gymnasium am Waldhof .
The Gymnasium am Waldhof borders on the property of the Ratsgymnasium Bielefeld . Both schools cooperate so that, for example, advanced courses can be attended at the other institution. In front of the main entrance there is a green area, which has been called the Park of Human Rights since 2009 and is used as a schoolyard. The Lutter , which was exposed in 2004, flows there.
