The HC Gherdëina (also HC Gröden ) is an Italian ice hockey club from Val Gardena that currently plays in the Alps Hockey League . The home stadium Pranives has a capacity of around 2,000.
history
The Hockey Club Val Gardena was founded on October 8, 1927. The team played continuously in Serie A from 1932 to 1986 . In 1973 Willy Comploj founded the Hockey Club Selva in neighboring Selva . This club has won the Serie B championship title three times in its almost 30-year existence . Later he acted as a partner club for the junior teams of HC Val Gardena. In 1980 the B-World Championship in 1981 was awarded to Ortisei, for which the Setil ice rink, which was open until then, was roofed over.
In 1986, the club voluntarily relegated to Serie B, because they did not want to follow the Italo shopping frenzy , the massive obligation of dual citizens, especially from Canada, of the other participating teams. In 1992 the promotion to Serie A followed. HC Val Gardena also played in the Alpine League .
In 1999 the club was almost on the verge of collapse after a mudslide destroyed the St. Ulrich ice rink, which was used at the time . After this accident, the “Pranives” ice rink in Selva became their home stadium and the club merged with HC Selva , which is located there .
