The handbag throwing world championship ( HTWWWM ) was a competition in handbag throwing that was held from 2012 to 2016 in the Movie Park Germany in Bottrop-Kirchhellen . The aim was to throw a handbag as far as possible in order to win the World Cup in one's home or favorite country. The world championship was organized by private individuals and Movie Park Germany. The “golden bag” made in the Netherlands and made of copper was awarded as a hiking trophy.

Staging

The World Cup team of a participating country consisted of four amateur athletes. Handbags were made available on loan, weighed on site and, since 2013, have been sealed by an anti-doping officer before the throw. The application was free of charge. Flag bearers, cheerleaders and fan clubs adorned the entrance of the national teams, some of which were dressed in a typical country style. The country matches were drawn at the beginning of the competition.

rating

The preliminary round was carried out in group mode. In four qualification groups, the group participants competed against each other in direct comparison. The winner of each duel received two points, the loser zero points. Each participant only had one attempt per match in the preliminary round. In the table, the direct comparison counted for the same throwing distance from several countries. If the throwing distance is the same, the more meters thrown counted. If the widths are the same, the jury's judgment counts for execution.

Of the participating national teams, eight World Cup teams reached the quarter-finals, which consisted of the four group winners and the four group runners-up. From the quarter-finals, the knock-out system continued until the winner was determined in the final of the two best teams. From the quarter-finals onwards, each participant received two attempts. The furthest of the two litters was then counted.

The jury judged not only the size but also the technical execution and choreography. The combination of throwing distance, technical execution and choreography (charisma of the group in facial expressions and gestures, condition of the handbags, props, make-up technique and shoes) gave the overall result in the point system.

Individual body control (step technique, jumping ability, turning ability, balance, body tension and condition) and creativity (diversity and wealth of ideas, own ideas and original steps) were also taken into account.

Since 2014 there has been a binding set of rules that has been discussed and approved with participants.

techniques

The four-person World Cup teams had the following throw options:

  • Pushing : The thrower stands with both legs parallel to the direction of the throw and holds the handbag by the two handles. The throwing movement takes place with a backward swing between the legs, followed by a jerky straightening up and body stretching when throwing it forward with both hands.
  • Crank throw : in the step position, the front foot is pressed firmly into the ground, the opposite rear arm is then used to gain momentum with powerful cranks and the handbag is thrown forward forcefully when the body is thrown.
  • Freestyle : With this technique, everything is allowed - as long as the handbag lands in the sector, no turns are built in and no one stepped over the throwing line.
  • Discus throw : The most advanced technique in the trial round - albeit difficult to master and often outside the sector and therefore invalid. The starting position takes place like a discus throw from the standing position in the throwing display, i. H. to the side of the throwing direction, the handbag grabbed by the handles as an extension of the extended limb. After a backward movement against the direction of rotation, the handbag is accelerated by rapid, powerful rotation of the hip in the direction of the throw and thrown out to the side when the front foot is pried open, similar to a discus.

The difficulty with the throws was to correctly assess the flight curve of the handbag. Since it is not as aerodynamic as classic throwing devices, the wind could also play a significant role, so that the tip widths could only be achieved with the correct setting angle to the wind and sufficient stability when dropping. Most of the meters could be achieved with good acceleration of the bag and quick straightening of the hips.

Validity of the litter

The release and the entire throwing movement had to take place within the marked release zone. Any attempt beyond that was not allowed. The throw was measured at the point where the handbag first touched the ground. The first contact with the ground had to take place within the marked throwing sector. If the handbag landed outside of the sector when it first appeared, this throw was invalid.

An invalid roll could not be retried; then zero meters were included in the evaluation. If the handbag touched a possibly erected barrier or barrier and then landed within the sector, the throw was to be assessed as valid and was measured accordingly at the point of occurrence.

Rotations of the thrower around the body axis to accelerate, such as throwing a discus or hammer, were not permitted. Such throws were to be considered invalid. In contrast, a straight run-up was allowed within the marked drop zone. As long as the handbag was still in the air, the thrower had to stay behind the throwing line. As soon as he touched the ground with any part of his body beyond the throwing line or came onto the throwing line, the throw was to be considered invalid.

Training camps

In the run-up to the HTWWWM 2013, three training camps for interested and already registered throwers took place on Djerba as well as in Berlin and Cologne for the first time.
