Haferberg

The Haferberg is 580.4  m above sea level. NHN high mountain in the Kaufunger Forest and the highest in Lower Saxony's Münden Nature Park . It is located between the Hessian towns of Nieste and Kleinalmerode in the northern Hessian district of Kassel and the southern Lower Saxony district of Göttingen .

The Haferberg rises on the border of northern Hesse in the northeast and southern Lower Saxony in the west. Along this border runs part of the border of the geo-nature park Frau-Holle-Land ( Werratal.Meißner.Kaufunger Wald ; Hessen) to the nature park Münden (Lower Saxony), whereby the wooded knoll with the summit about 40 m west of these borders is the last mentioned nature park belongs. The summit is located 1.25 km northwest of the mountain pass Umschwang ( 446  m ), 4.5 km east of Nieste and less than 4 km (depending crow flies ) west of Kleinalmerode.

Natural allocation

The Haferberg belongs in the natural spatial main unit group Osthessisches Bergland (No. 35) and in the main unit Fulda-Werra-Bergland (357) to the natural areas Kaufunger Wald-Hochfläche (Vorderer Kaufunger Wald) (357.71) in the west and Hinterer Kaufunger Wald (357.72) in the East; the border between the two natural areas belonging to the Kaufunger Wald and Söhre subunit (357.7) runs roughly over the summit.

Fulda-Werra watershed

The Haferberg is located on the watershed between the rivers Fulda in the west and Werra to the northeast toward the north flank of Mount Rautenbach springs and southeast near the Umschwang represent hunger homes Bach, Western Werra inflows. The Wengebach rises southeast of the mountain - also near the Umschwang - and the Endschlagbach rises to the west as an eastern and northern tributary of the Fulda tributary Nieste .

hike

The Haferberg, to which there are no roads, can be reached, for example during a hike that begins at the Umschwang on the Frau-Holle path leading over its crest . The Mühlenstein mountain ( 607.2  m ), which can be hiked on this path, rises to the southeast and thus beyond the pass .
