The Haine (sometimes also Hayne , German: Henne , Dutch: Hene ) is a river that runs through Belgium and France . It rises in the municipality of Anderlues in Belgium and flows into the Scheldt after 72 kilometers in Condé-sur-l'Escaut , France .
Both the former county of Hainaut and today's Belgian province of Hainaut are named after the river. The industrial region in the valley of the groves is also known under the name Borinage and is the western branch of the Walloon main industrial zone in the Sambre - Meuse furrow.
The river is canalised in the lower reaches and feeds the Canal de Mons à Condé, which has now been closed for shipping .
