Holder / Meyer courts is a peasantry in the extreme west of the municipality Visbek in South Oldenburg region district of Vechta in Lower Saxony . It consists of the village of Halter and the hamlet of Meyerhöfen to the east of the village . Holder was mentioned in documents as early as the Middle Ages as Halathron (approx. 890), Halahtre (947) and Haleteren (1218). The basic word of the place name Halter is tere, dere = tree.

Geography and landscape

The Meyerhöfener Wasserzug

Halter / Meyerhöfen is located north of the national road 873 halfway between Visbek and Schneiderkrug , about 4 kilometers west-southwest of the Visbek town center.

Extensive strawberry fields and - partly built in half-timbered - farms determine the image of the flat geest landscape of Halter and Meyerhöfen.

As a topographical feature, the Weser-Ems watershed cuts through the southern part of the peasantry from southeast to northwest. The two source streams of the sand-shaped lowland stream Aue arise northwest of Halter. The Meyerhöfener Wasserzug , a right tributary of the floodplain, rises north of Meyerhöfen. Both watercourses are part of the nature reserve " Bäken der Endeler and Holzhauser Heide ".

Coat of arms

In the coat of arms of the peasantry Halter you can find a horse and a plow. The symbol of the horse goes back to a former famous horse breed. The plow is reminiscent of agriculture as the former sole source of income in this rural village.

Management of the peasantry

District head of Halter / Meyerhöfen is Josef Siemer (as of Feb. 21, 2020) .

Others

In 1973, Halter won a silver medal in the national competition Our village should be more beautiful .
