The Town of Hamburg is located in southwest Wisconsin, around 5 km east of the Mississippi , which forms the border with Minnesota . The intersection of the three states of Wisconsin, Iowa and Minnesota is about 30 km to the southwest. The Coon Creek , a left tributary of the Mississippi, flows through the town in a northeast-southwest direction.
The Town of Hamburg is located in the Driftless Area , formed by the Ice Age, which stretches across southeastern Minnesota, southwestern Wisconsin, northeastern Iowa, and extreme northwestern Illinois. During the last ice age, the so-called Wisconsin Glaciation , the region remained ice-free, so that the river valleys could cut deeper into the plateau during this time.

The US Highway 14 runs through the northeast of the Town of Hamburg. The Wisconsin State Highway 162 branches off from US 14 and runs along Coon Creek to the southwest. In addition, the County Highways K and KK run through the town. All other roads are subordinate country roads and some unpaved roads.
