history

Airport diagram

Rochester International Airport was established in 1928 by the Mayo Foundation to provide convenient travel for patients who had to travel greater distances. A year later, the Rochester Airport Company was founded by the Mayo Foundation to carry out flight operations . Northwest Airlines was the first airline to fly to the Minneapolis-St. Paul. In 1940 the runways were paved and the airport expanded to its present size. During the Second World War, the US Army carried out flight exercises from Rochester Airport. In 1945 the Mayo Foundation donated the airport to the City of Rochester, but the flight operations continued to be carried out by the Rochester Airport Company. In 1960 the airport was renamed Rochester Municipal Airport . After the airport received a customs clearance office in 1995, it was named Rochester International Airport . In 2005 the main runway was extended to a length of 2,753 meters.

Today, the airport tries to serve as many destination airports as possible despite the low occupancy rate. After the flight connection to Lambert-Saint Louis International Airport was given up after a short time in the 1990s , the connection with the Dallas / Fort Worth International Airport also ended in 2006 . In addition to the construction of a new runway and a new terminal, the installation of an instrument landing system is also planned for 2009 .
