Frederik Hetmann

Frederik Hetmann (born February 17, 1934 in Breslau ; † June 1, 2006 in Limburg an der Lahn ; actually Hans-Christian Kirsch ) was a German writer who, in addition to time-critical books for young people and biographies, was primarily concerned with collecting and translating fairy tales, Myths and sagas dealt with.

Life

Hans-Christian Kirsch grew up in Lower Silesia and fled after the Second World War in 1945, first to Thuringia and finally to West Germany in 1949. After graduating from high school in Frankfurt am Main , he studied pedagogy, English, Romance studies, philosophy and political science at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt , the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and in Madrid. From 1956 to 1960 he worked as a teacher at a commercial college in Wiesbaden . Over the years he made numerous trips that took him to many countries and continents.

From 1962 Frederik Hetmann worked as a freelance writer, including for the youth radio of the Südwestfunk . In 1972 he became editor and editor at Otto-Maier-Verlag , an activity that he gave up in 1978 in order to work again as a freelance writer, editor and translator. Hetmann was best known for his biographies for children and young people and for his fantasy novels such as B. Madru 1984. In 1993 he received a scholarship from the Villa Massimo of the German Academy in Rome.

Most recently he lived in Limburg with his wife Elinor. Hans-Christian Kirsch's estate has been in the Limburg City Archives since November 2009.

Hans-im-Glück Prize

In 1977, Kirsch and his wife founded the Hans-im-Glück Prize to promote young authors.
