Hans Dörr (gynecologist)

Hans Alfred Dörr (born December 3, 1906 in Klattau , Bohemia , † November 25, 1992 in Worms ) was a German gynecologist. He headed the Worms City Hospital from 1946 to 1971, was a professor at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz and was involved in the resistance against Hitler.

Origin and education

Hans Dörr's mother had converted from Judaism and, like her son, was a Roman Catholic .

Hans Dörr studied medicine at the Universities of Erlangen-Nuremberg , Munich , Innsbruck and Tübingen from 1927 to 1934 and was a member of the student association Saxo-Guestphalia Erlangen (today Saxo-Suevia Erlangen ). In 1933 he passed the medical state examination in Erlangen. In 1934 he received his doctorate under Otto Goetze at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. On January 15, 1954, he completed his habilitation at the University of Mainz .

In 1933 and 1934 he initially worked as a medical intern in surgery at the Erlangen University Hospital and received his license to practice medicine on November 19, 1934 . He worked until 1940 as an assistant doctor at the Frankfurt University Hospital . In 1936 he did military service . In 1938 he joined the NSDAP , which, however, excluded him again in 1939 or 1940 because he was classified as a “ Jewish mixed race ” because of his mother and the Nuremberg Laws . In 1939 and 1940 he did military service again as a battalion doctor. He was deployed with the Infantry Regiment 88 (Fulda) on the western front. Here too he was released on "racial grounds".

On March 3, 1941, he passed the specialist examination in gynecology . 1941-1945 he worked, conscripted , in the city hospital Worms. After trying to find allies in the regiment for political work against Hitler as a battalion doctor, he joined the resistance group around Wilhelm Leuschner and Jakob Steffan in Guntersblum in 1943 .

On January 15, 1946, he was appointed medical director of the Worms City Hospital. At the same time he headed the gynecological department. He performed these duties for the next 25 years until he left on December 31, 1971. 1959/1960 he was president of the Middle Rhine Society for Obstetrics and Gynecology .

From 1954 to 1959 he was initially a private lecturer , from 1959 to 1973 then an adjunct professor at the University of Mainz . His specialties were obstetrics and gynecology.

Honors

After its relocation in 1981, a park named after Hans Dörr was created at the former location of the Worms City Hospital. There is also a memorial plaque with information about his work in Worms.
