Hans Kurt Willi Schmiljan (born November 6, 1901 in Wilhelmshaven ; † March 7, 1961 in Berlin ) was a German economist and politician ( CDU ). From 1951 to 1952 and from 1958 to 1961 he was a member of the Berlin House of Representatives and from 1955 to 1961 Senator for Health Care.

Life

Schmiljan studied economics at the Universities of Gdansk , Vienna and Konigsberg . In 1924 he received his doctorate at the Albertina with the dissertation The emergence and organization of the district and city banks in Prussia .

During the time of National Socialism he was an alderman of the German Municipal Assembly and there head of the department for job creation, unemployment assistance, labor deployment and rural assistance.

After the Second World War , Schmiljan joined the Berlin CDU and was chairman of the CDU district association Schöneberg-Friedenau from 1949 to 1959. From 1950 to 1955 he was a city councilor in Berlin's Schöneberg district and deputy mayor. From 1951 until his resignation on February 1, 1952, and again from 1958 until his death, he was a member of the Berlin House of Representatives. After the formation of the grand coalition under the governing mayor Otto Suhr ( SPD ), he was elected to the Senate as health senator in January 1955 . He kept the office under Suhr's successor Willy Brandt ( Senate Brandt I and Brandt II ) until he died in office on March 7, 1961.

From January 1961 until his death he was also President of the German Hospital Society (DKG).

Schmiljan was buried in the municipal forest cemetery in Dahlem in Dept. 10F-3. His grave was dedicated to the city of Berlin as an honor grave until 2014 . The Schmiljanstraße in the Berlin district of Friedenau was named after him 1,962th
