Hans Weber (botanist)
Hans Friedrich Weber (born October 6, 1911 in Delitzsch , Saxony-Anhalt , † December 18, 2006 in Mainz ) was a German botanist . His botanical author's abbreviation is " H. Weber ".
Life
Hans Weber, born in Delitzsch, son of Friedrich Weber and Margarete born Biehl, high school graduate at the Oberrealschule Delitzsch, then turned to studying biology at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg , which he acquired in 1936 the academic degree of Dr. phil. completed.
After years of assistantship , he completed his habilitation in 1939 as a private lecturer in botany and pharmacognosy at the Albertus University in Königsberg , and in 1946 he accepted a full professorship for these subjects at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz . He was also appointed head of the Institute for Special Botany and, in 1963, succeeded Wilhelm Troll as head of the Botanical Garden . Hans Weber, who undertook research trips to South and Central America , held these positions until his retirement in 1979.
Hans Weber, who was married to Gerda, née Boettcher, with whom he had two children, died in December 2006 two months after he had turned 95.
