Hans Wilhelm Schuessler
Hans Wilhelm Schüßler (born February 28, 1928 in Dortmund ; † December 9, 2007 ) was a German communications engineer .
Life
Hans Wilhelm Schüßler studied at the Dortmund Engineering School and at RWTH Aachen University . In 1958 he was in Aachen with the work over the sampling theorem and its application to the calculation of spectral functions of time functions and vice versa doctorate ; In 1961 he completed his habilitation with the text About the representation of transmission functions and networks on the analog computer . He was then a postdoctoral fellow at Cornell University in Ithaca , New York .
In 1963 he was appointed associate professor at the TH Karlsruhe ; In 1966 he received a call to the Department of Telecommunications at the newly established Faculty of Engineering of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg . In 1993 he retired . He taught as an emeritus until 1998.
Act
Schüßler's main research areas were digital signal processing and its communications technology application. He has received numerous awards for his work; In 2002 the Jack S. Kilby Signal Processing Medal in recognition of his leadership role in the development of digital signal processing, particularly for his contributions to the theory, design and implementation of analog and digital filters.
In 1990 he was accepted as a full member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .
In 1996 he and his wife founded the Hans Wilhelm and Helga Schüßler Foundation to promote academic exchange at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. For the renovation of the former entrance building of the barracks of the Bavarian Army in Erlangen, today's guesthouse of the university , Helga and Hans Wilhelm Schüßler were honored with the Bavarian Monument Protection Medal in 2001 .
