Coordinates: 65 ° 50 ′ N , 24 ° 8 ′ E Haparanda is a municipality in the northern Swedish province of Norrbotten County and the historic province of Norrbotten .
geography
The municipality extends from the Finnish border about 30 kilometers along the Gulf of Bothnia to the west and from the coast about 40 kilometers inland. The Torne älv forms the municipal boundary in the east (Finland). The Keräsjoki River flows through the municipality parallel to the Torneälven.
The main town of the municipality is Haparanda . Other places are Karungi , Kukkola , Marielund , Mattila , Nikkala , Purra , Salmis , Seskarö Island , Säivis , Vojakkala , Vuono .
economy
Apart from public administration institutions, the industrial companies AssiDomän AB and Polarica AB are among the larger employers. Border trade is also of great concern to the community.
