Harald Schöndorf SJ (born May 6, 1944 in Roding ( Upper Palatinate )) is a German philosopher .

After graduating from high school at the humanistic Wilhelmsgymnasium in Munich , Harald Schöndorf joined the Jesuit order in 1963 and initially studied philosophy at the Philosophical University Berchmanskolleg in Pullach from 1965 to 1968 . He then studied theology and philosophy at the Julius Maximilians University in Würzburg (1968–1970), the Faculté de Théologie de la Compagnie de Jésus Fourvière-Lyon (1970–1972), the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen (1972– 1973) and at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich 1973–1979.

In 1972 - before completing his theological studies - Harald Schöndorf was ordained a priest. In 1979 he received his doctorate with the work The concept of the body in Schopenhauer and its history with Robert Spaemann at the Ludwig Maximilians University. In 1995 he completed his habilitation at the University of Philosophy in Munich. Since 2000 he has been a full professor for epistemology and the history of philosophy . Schöndorf has also held numerous guest lectureships, including in San Miguel near Buenos Aires , in St. Georgen ( Frankfurt ), Benediktbeuern , Innsbruck , at the Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá , at the Instituto Bonó ( Santo Domingo ), at the UCA in San Salvador and at the Center Sèvres in Paris .

His research focuses on the philosophical subject epistemology, the ontological proof of God and the philosophy of Suárez , Descartes , Kant and Schopenhauer .

Schöndorf is the editor of the completely revised new edition of the well-known Philosophical Dictionary by Walter Brugger .

Ulrich L. Lehner and Ronald Tacelli SJ published a commemorative publication for his 75th birthday in 2019, which was published by Kohlhammer Verlag under the title Word and Truth .
