The Hardt- und Schönbühlhof , also Hardt-Schönbühlhof , but mostly Hardthof and only called Hof by the locals , is a hamlet belonging to Schwieberdingen and Markgröningen in the Baden-Württemberg district of Ludwigsburg . The settlement on the western edge of its mother communities has around 330 inhabitants.

Substitute for desolation

From 1751 to 1752 the Gröningen Office had the "Aussfeld" west of the Glems, neglected since the Thirty Years' War, measured for recultivation and repopulation. To facilitate the management of local remote areas, they wanted to the dialed Weiler Talhausen , Aichholz , Pulverdingen revive.

A location was chosen that was offset to the south and further away from the gallows of the Gröningen High Court , which was also located on the trunk road and on the border between Markgröningen and Schwieberdingen. However, as was to be expected, the area south of Schönbühl, which was left out as a “desert” in the “MarGröninger outfield map” and which was apparently already inhabited before, was not occupied, but remained west of it.

Desperate pioneers

In 1760 Johannes and Appolonia Schettler as well as Johann Georg and Sophia Beck from Schwieberdingen built the first two farms on the Schwieberdinger Gewann "Hardt" (Appolonia and Sophia were sisters). On their own, the two couples with six and eight children apparently initially had a very difficult time. The fertility of the soil left a lot to be desired here, and the trunk road offered less additional income from tension services than had been hoped for. Schettler complained in Schwieberdingen that he would rather die than live in such misery with his wife. But there was no turning back.

It was not until ten years later that three families from Markgröningen were added, including another sister Appolonias and Sophias (Barbara with her husband Hans Jerg Löffler), who laid the foundation stone for the Schönbühlhof on the plot of land that was identified in the "Aussfeldkarte" from 1752 as "Won Schönbühl" Hospital foundation. Named after the "Schönbühl" bordering to the east, probably once a Celtic burial mound. However, the name Schönbühlhof did not really catch on in the vernacular. In Markgröningen, too, people mostly speak of the “Hardthof”, and until the 20th century it was also called “Appeleshof” here - after the co-founder with the striking first name Appolonia.

At first the settlement did not really get going because many impoverished families, recruited in particular by English and Prussian agents, decided to emigrate to America, Prussia or Eastern Europe. Some “farms” also migrated again. Additional settlers finally came not only from the mother communities, but also from Tamm , Münchingen , Hemmingen and Hochdorf as well as from the communities of Eltingen and Heimerdingen outside of the administrative district .

In the farming village, which was once on both sides of the former Römerstrasse (later Bundesstrasse 10 ), there are now only five full-time farmers left. Most of the working residents are commuters. Today the B 10 bypasses the hamlet in the west, which is connected without any intersections.

administration

The interests of the hamlet vis-à-vis its two mother communities are represented by a “lawyer” chosen by the farms . In earlier municipal ordinances, lawyers had municipal status: they had to hold meetings and were represented on the municipal council. There are no longer any lawyers officially in the current municipal code. In the hamlet of Hardt- und Schönbühlhof, however, the function was retained outside of the legal basis.

In 2014 the town of Markgröningen and the community of Schwieberdingen founded the “ Zweckverband Hardt- und Schönbühlhof” based in Markgröningen, which takes care of the common hamlet.

Church life

The “courtly” identity is cultivated in particular by the Hardt- and Schönbühlhof volunteer fire brigade, which was founded in 1899 and is still independent. Its members raise the maypole every year and organize the “courtyard festival” that takes place in June. Every 25 years, the “Höfer” celebrate the anniversary of the town's foundation in 1760.

The evangelical pastors from Markgröningen come to the fortnightly service and use the old schoolhouse, which is also the cemetery, for this purpose. People have been buried in their own churchyard since 1850; Since then it has been customary on the farm for the deceased to be carried from their place of residence to the cemetery by neighbors or close friends or relatives. The deceased are buried by the respective pastor of the mother parish, depending on their denomination.

Since the establishment of the pond, there was a desire to teach the children at the court. However, the court's citizens were only able to buy the former Beck's founding house in 1842 and hired a temporary assistant (assistant teacher) for school lessons at their own expense. From 1860 onwards, the number of students had increased so much that a state-employed teacher held classes on the farm. From 1966 onwards, due to the implementation of the School Development Plan I, only the primary school (grades 1–4) was taught on the farm;
