Harnrode is a district of the market town of Philippsthal (Werra) in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district in eastern Hesse .

Geographical location

The village is north of Philippsthal. The Werra flows north of Harnrode . State road 3172 runs through the village .

history

The local area was already settled at the time of Hallstatt , as archaeological finds have proven. The place name changed from Gottels and Götterstatt to Geiderstatt and Urnröder Höfe to today's Harnrode .

The place Harnrode originally belonged to the Thuringian court Heringen . In 1432 Margarethe von Heringen sold the court to the Landgraves of Hesse , whereby Harnrode and the deserted Geiderstad came to the Hersfeldian bailiwick of Kreuzberg . The authorities, however, lay with the Hessian office of Friedewald , to which the rest of the court came.

On August 1, 1972, as part of the regional reform in Hesse, the previously independent municipality of Harnrode was merged with five other places to form the new municipality of Philippstal.
