Albert Edward Harry Mayer Archibald Primrose, 6th Earl of Rosebery , KT , DSO , MC , PC , FRSE (born January 8, 1882 in Dalmeny House , Edinburgh , † May 31, 1974 ) was a British politician of the Liberal Party and later Conservative Party , the 1906-1910 Member of Parliament ( House of Commons ) . On 21 May 1929, he inherited the title of the 6th  Earl of Rosebery from the hereditary nobility ( Hereditary peerage ) the Peerage of Scotland , which he held until his death the upper house ( House of Lords ) belonged. He was Lord Lieutenant of the County of Midlothian between 1929 and 1964 and briefly Minister for Scotland in 1945 . In 1947 he was made a Knight of the Thistle Order , the second highest order in the United Kingdom after the Order of the Garter .

Life

Family origin, member of the House of Commons and First World War

Harry Primrose's father was Archibald Primrose, 5th Earl of Rosebery , who was Prime Minister between 1894 and 1895 .

Albert Edward Harry Mayer Archibald Primrose, was one of four children and the eldest son of the politician Archibald Primrose, 5th Earl of Rosebery , who was Prime Minister between 1894 and 1895 , and his wife Hannah de Rothshild Primrose, Countess of Rosebery. His siblings included his older sister, the writer and artist Lady Sybil Grant , and his younger brother Neil Primrose , who was also a member of the House of Commons. After attending the prestigious Eton College completing his officer training at the Royal Military College Sandhurst and was after its completion in 1902 lieutenant (Second Lieutenant) in the Guards Grenadier Regiment Grenadier Guards . At the same time he inherited the associated subordinate titles as 6th  Viscount of Rosebery , 6th  Viscount of Inverkeithing , 6th  Lord Dalmeny and Primrose from the Peerage of Scotland and 10th  Baronet Primrose, of Carrington and the title of 3rd  Baron Rosebery , of Rosebery, in the County of Midlothian, from the Peerage of the United Kingdom . Furthermore, he inherited the title of 2nd Earl of Midlothian from the Peerage of the United Kingdom and the associated subordinate title of 2nd  Viscount Mentmore , of Mentmore, in the County of Buckingham, as 2nd  Baron Epsom , from his late father  of Epsom, in the County of Surrey. At the same time, he was by a member of the upper house ( House of Lords ) , where he remained until his death on May 31, 1974th

Furthermore, he took over from his late father Archibald Primrose, 5th Earl of Rosebery on October 8, 1929, the office of Lord Lieutenant of the County of Midlothian and held this until June 4, 1964, whereupon Maxwell Inglis, 9th Baronet, his successor started. He was also accepted as Ensign in the Royal Company of Archers , the bodyguard of the British monarch in Scotland, in 1936 and became Lieutenant in 1945 and Captain in 1948 . Marriages and offspring

Harry Primrose, 6th Earl of Rosebery, was married twice. His first marriage was on April 15, 1909, Lady Dorothy Alice Margaret Augusta Grosvenor, daughter of Lord Henry George Grosvenor and Dora Mina Erskine-Wemyss. From this marriage, which was divorced in 1919, the son Archibald Ronald Primrose, Lord Dalmeny, and the daughter Lady Helen Dorothy Primrose emerged. His second marriage was on June 24, 1924, with Eva Isabel Marion Bruce, daughter of Major Henry Bruce, 2nd Baron Aberdare and Constance Mary Beckett. He was married to her for almost fifty years until his death on May 30, 1974. From this marriage, Neil Archibald Primrose and their daughter Lady Mary Primrose emerged, who, however, died at her birth on March 15, 1935. After his death, his second son, Neil Archibald Primrose, inherited the title of 7th Earl of Primrose, as well as the subordinate and related titles, since the eldest son Archibald Ronald Primrose, Lord Dalmeny, had already died on November 11, 1931.
