Before the 2015 territorial reform, Hataz had an area of 52.93 km². Now it is 50.60 km². The Suco is located in the southeast of the Atabae administrative office. To the north, across the Hatoleai River, lies the Suco Atabae and west of the Suco Aidabaleten . To the south of the Mukuki River is the Suco Leolima ( Balibo administrative office ), to the east beyond the Nunura the Suco Ritabou ( Maliana administrative office ). Here, however, the river is called Nunutura . Further downstream it changes its name to Bebai . Here in the northeast, across the river, are the Sucos Meligo and Atudara (both administrative offices of Cailaco ). The rivers Meuculi and Matenua , which arise in Aidabaleten, cross the Suco and, like Hatoleai and Mukuki, flow into the Nunura.

Most of the larger Sucos towns are on the Nunura. From south to north these are Biamaraen ( Biamarae ), Bausae , Arlaeben , Aidabasalala , Suruhari ( Suruhati ), Boloi ( Buloi ) and Airamasala . A little further from the river in the northeast of the Sucos lies the village of Lahuluh . On the Hatoleai in the northwest are the places Buloilaun and Nunuteten ( Nunutelen ). In the southwest, near the border with Aidabaleten, is the village of Kuitapo . There are primary schools in Biamaraen and Aidabasalala. Aidabasalala also has a medical station and a helipad for emergencies. The Suco is poorly connected in terms of traffic. For the parliamentary elections in East Timor in 2007 , the ballot boxes had to be brought to the polling station by helicopter.

In the Suco there are the four Aldeias Aidabaleten , Aidabasalala , Biamaraen and Boloi .

Residents

2223 inhabitants live in the Suco (2015), of which 1079 are men and 1144 women. The population density is 43.9 inhabitants / km². There are 377 households in the Suco. Over 95% of the population name Kemak as their mother tongue. Less than 5% speak Tetum Prasa , small minorities speak Bunak or Habun .

history

On October 16, 1999, there was a skirmish in Aidabasalala between six Australian INTERFET soldiers and around 20 members of a pro-Indonesian militia . At least three militiamen were killed and three others were injured.
